All your base are belong to us

Thanks to Chelsea Girl I am writing my second post in english, when my original intention was to do it much more often - not only because I live in England but because I enjoy the language immensely. I have always believed that spanish is my language for poetry and love and english is my language for music and life.

And it is about music that I have been memed. Unfortunately I have never liked music compilations. I am a big music fan and I have always felt that extracting individual songs from albums breaks the wholeness, the piece of art is not enjoyed as it was meant to be by the artist, so I won't do it.

I will do better.

I will create a compilation of music albums. Music that has been important for me at some stage of my life, so it will probably be all time favourites, but it will do.

1. The Cure - Disintegration

A first kiss soundtrack, makes you never forget "Pictures of you", or the girl.

2. Counting Crows - August and everything after

Sound of several summer holidays in Scotland. It reminds me of the landscape, the hitchhiking, the strawberries, all the people, and another special girl.

3. Dire Straits - Making movies

Another first kiss soundtrack, this time for my first ever serious relationship. I not only remember the music, but it helped to engrave and intensify my feeling so much that I can still close my eyes and feel the softness of her lips. We were sharing headsets and my walkman played "Romeo and Juliet".

4. AC/DC - Back in Black

This is how my cuadrilla sounds ( group of old best friends, the ones that grow with you and are always there for you, even in the distance). I remember screaming Hell's Bells lyrics without really understanding a word. I still sing muxumumuxumu instead of much much more.

5. Alanis Morissette - Jagged little pill

There is one last song in this album, one of those extra tracks that did not appear on the back cover and that only plays when you leave the cd playing silence for a while - about a girl feeling her boyfriend's absence while sneaking through his stuff with him absent - until she discovers a handwritten love note from another woman. It even hurt me the first time I heard it.
I listen to it when I need to feel emotional pain.

6. U2 - The Joshua Tree

I remember I used to hate U2 when I was a teenager, don't know why. Then suddenly one day they were the greatest thing on earth.

7. Héroes del Silencio - El mar no cesa

Enrique Bunbury's powerful voice, the poetic lyrics and the electric guitar - this music reminds me of my brother, he liked it then even more than I did, and he can even play and sing it in the guitar - probably that's why I keep trying to play it properly.

8. Queen - A night at the opera

Don't tell me Bohemian Rhapsody wasn't going to make it into your list. Any generation golf or generation X person adores this song, the whole album is mind blowing.

9. Garbage - Version 2.0

It reminds me of Karin. She used to listen to this a lot when we were both students, and she used to play it a lot when we made love at her bedsit.

10. Semisonic - Feeling strangely fine

Secret smile was the song that waked me up most mornings when I first arrived to the UK, in Portsmouth. Don't ask me why but in my memories local radio stations were quite repetitive. It was the last album I bought for Marta. I still have it.

11. Joaquin Rodrigo - Concierto de Aranjuez

This concert can really touch my soul. When I listen to the music I always think of Granada and the arabs, and how hard must have been being forced out. Don't ask me why the connection, it maybe made sense long time ago - "No llores como mujer lo que no supiste defender como hombre". And I fell in love once during a live performance, but she didn't.

Unfortunately this meme has found the selfish gene, and it won't spread. Also, i don't have enough commenters to fill the list, and I expect to have less if I start posting in two languages.
